Dr. Fields is an internist who spent much of her career at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Fields earned her undergraduate degree at Clemson University, her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas – Houston. Dr. Fields practiced outpatient primary care at MUSC after spending 10 years practicing inpatient and outpatient internal medicine in the Atlanta area. She also volunteers for medical causes including NORD (National Organization for Rare Disease). On the subject of continuing education, Dr. Fields commented, "It is so fulfilling to have the opportunity to connect with my colleagues through education and the sharing of information. Ultimately, my hope is that our commitment to continued learning will advance positive outcomes for our patients, as well as overall population health."

Objectives
Our goal is to help you become more knowledgeable and confident in your recommendations for treatment of cough and congestion
caused by cold, flu, and/or allergy, with the ultimate aim of optimizing patient care and improving outcomes – all
while having some fun along the way.
By addressing identified knowledge gaps relative to the physiological characteristics of mucus, the wide range of
OTC cough and cold products (including product differences, risks and benefits), and patient assessment, you will be
better able to:
- Explain the complications associated with excessive mucus production (including cough and secondary infection) and
effectively treat the condition with appropriate, individualized interventions
- Advise and educate your cold, flu, and/or allergy patients on effective treatment options
- Elicit key information upon which to base appropriate treatment, resulting in appropriate patient assessment and timely and effective treatment

Our Faculty
Thomas O'Donnell, PharmD earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the College of Charleston, and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He has APha certifications in Medication Therapy Management, Immunization, and Diabetes, and has worked in retail pharmacy for over five years. Recently, Dr. O'Donnell commented that "As a retail pharmacy manager, my days are full of challenge, fulfillment, compassion and education.
